Wildlife Friendly Space Award

Congratulations are in order to all the volunteers who have been working hard to improve biodiversity in Charlton Down Nature Area. We have just received a Wildlife Friendly Space Award from Dorset Wildlife Trust. We submitted a detailed application about our site and what we have been doing to enhance its value. The application was supported by 10 photographs to provide evidence that the Nature Area had certain designated features and that we were doing specific named actions to improve biodiversity. These included presence of nectar-rich and pollen-rich wildflowers, a wildflower meadow, a pond, water at different depths, trees and shrubs with flowers and fruits, log piles, and nesting boxes. We were delighted to receive the following response to the application:

“We were totally bowled over by your submission!  What an amazing place for wildlife! It was so interesting to read your blogs and hear about all the different species that have been recorded. The work the volunteers have done at the Charlton Down Nature Area is a success which should be celebrated, and I am delighted to be able to send you our ‘Wildlife Friendly Space’ award.

If you were interested, we would love to cover your story as a Community Group case study. It would be a wonderful example of what community groups can achieve for nature, and I’m sure it would be an inspiration for others to take action to help wildlife.  We could include the link to your webpage and celebrate all you have achieved – please let me know what you think.

Thank you for taking action to help wildlife – nature needs our help now more than ever. Congratulations!”
