Spindle Fruits

Spindle (Euonymus europaeus) berries just have to be the most beautiful fruits of all the British native plants. It is hard to believe that they are not flowers when you first catch sight of them. Even when you realise they are fruits and seeds, it is difficult to take on board that they are not some introduced species from more exotic climates. They have a bright pink capsule when ripe, with four compartments that open to reveal vivid orange seeds. They look fantastic.
