We went out by the light of the crescent moon and the star-filled sky to watch for the toads arriving at the Charlton Down Nature Area pond. We had to step so very carefully because they were still arriving and were crawling along the muddy tracks. Quite a few were already in the water, clinging to the rocks edging the pool or sitting amongst the weed along with the frogs waiting for suitable partners. Photographing illuminated by headlamps was the best we could do. Surprisingly difficult by white light which makes the creatures move away. While they remain unaffected by the red light option, the images are not so clear.
