A Year of Progress with the Pond

This time last year, the pond in the Charlton Down Nature Area was in a sorry state, and it had been for quite a few years. After a lot of negotiation we managed to acquire the funding for its replacement with a new pond of a better design than the old one. It’s installation has come with a huge responsibility to see that it is cared for and developed the best way it can be for the benefit of wildlife. And it has done very well indeed in its first year as you will see from this series of pictures dating from September 2023 to this month October 2024, showing the intermediate reconstruction stages from the derelict and vandalised old state through to the current more natural appearance.
