Large Red Damselflies (Pyrrhosoma nymphula), probably with the two forms intermedia and fulvipes, are a beautiful sight flying over the pond, mating, laying eggs, and resting on vegetation at Charlton Down Nature Area. They do not visit as frequently as the blue damselflies, but have been present on occasions in Spring and Summer. One of 11 Odonatan species recorded at the site so far.
