The Parsnip Webworm or Parsnip Moth (Depressaria radiella) – a micro-moth – has a caterpillar that eats the white flowers and seeds of common hogweed and pupates in the hollow hogweed stems. The larvae are active in June and July. The adults fly in September and October and also in April after hibernation. It is one of the 38 species of Lepidoptera recorded so far as part of the baseline survey to catalogue everything that lives in the Charlton Down Nature Area as we try to take actions that will improve the biodiversity of the site.
