In the Beginning

I thought people might be interested in some old photographs showing how the Charlton Down Nature Area looked when it was first set up and just afterwards . Unfortunately, it is not clear who took all the pictures that I managed to find on-line or the exact dates they were taken. So I would like straightaway to acknowledge the people who took these shots and thank them; and would be delighted to hear from any of them if they see their work posted here. It would also be great if anyone would like to share more pictures of the early days of our local wildlife site.

The Nature Area was created in 2008 and 2009 by the Parish Council in conjunction with a local volunteer group together with support of £9,000 from the National Lottery.
